English Creative Task: Holly Lowe Microelectronics, antibiotics, laser technology, the smartphone and nuclear weapons. These are things that would all seem common or fairly normal, especially as students who are studying technology or science. However, they something that Salem would not have experienced close to 300 years ago. These prodigious inventions are as a result of our technological and scientific advancements throughout the past few centuries. It is fascinating to take a look back at history to realise the significant impression that these inventions or advancements have had on our world today. However, we today are not really†¦show more content†¦There were several times in the play when hysteria seemed to engulf the people of the town, specifically when Tituba, then Abigail and then eventually all of the girls involved in the actions of witchcraft started to name people who they thought are wit ches. The uncontrollable outburst expressed in this particular scene displays the severity of the hysteria that is beginning to form. Throughout the play, this theme of hysteria allows us to focus on the way that events are able to completely tear a community to pieces or remove all logic and common sense, thus highlighting the fact that hysteria can be used as an excuse for people, in this case those of Salem, to act upon their darkest desires. Similar hysteria can bee demonstrated through events that took place in the 1930-1940’s, the Jewish Holocaust. Its quite simple to understand how the mass killing of around 6 million people might have caused frenzy and hysterics at the time of the event, and even for decades after. From the ruthless capture of millions of Jews to their inhumane and timely death, often by lethal gas or torture and the excitement or satisfaction from the Nazi’s about these actions, we are able to see that clear and utter hysteria that occurred.
